Appalachian Spring

An Appalachian adventure with selections from Darius Milhaud and Samuel Barber, alongside a premiere performance of “Northern Lights,” inspired by the spring 2024 display of the aurora borealis and written by regional composer, Dawson Hull. Topping off the evening will be the delightful full stage performance of Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” by special guest Ballet Arts, Inc.

Indulge in an exhilarating trip back to the roaring twenties with music from Gershwin’s “An American in Paris,” Ravel’s “Bolero,” and Honegger’s “Pacific 231.” In a stormy juxtaposition, guest pianist, Artina McCain, performs Florence Price's "Piano Concerto in One Movement" as well as a tribute piece to the composer affectionately known as “Fred O."

“Fanfare to the Uncommon Woman,” written by world renown female composer, Joan Tower, kicks off this inspiring evening of contrasts. Whether it’s romance or adventure, the thrill of the chase can be half the fun, and Strauss’ “Don Juan” paired with Schumann’s Spring Symphony, “Symphony No. 1” is sure to fuel wanderlust and expectation, while reminding audiences that love reciprocated is the real feat.
