Sinfonia Orchestra Youth Orchestra

The Jackson Symphony is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for young musicians in West Tennessee. The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras challenge students to develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.

The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra will begin its 14th season in 2012-2013 under the direction of Mr. Michael Mann. The orchestra will present three concerts and a side-by-side performance with The Jackson Symphony during the season. Entry into The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra is by audition. Serious young musicians who play any string instrument, standard orchestral brass and woodwinds, or  percussion are invited to audition.  Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Union University in Jackson.  Rehearsals for the 2012-2013 season begin August 23rd.

JSYO auditions will be held on August 11th and 12th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.  Audition information and registration forms are available by clicking Here.  Audition music may be downloaded by clicking on your Ensemble part:

The Sinfonia Strings ensemble, directed by Tricia Wilburn, is The Jackson Symphony's intermediate string orchestra.  For all new potential sinfonia members the following audition material will be required:  Know your scales up to three sharps and three flats, be ready to perform a one minute solo piece, and be able to play a short sight reading.  Sinfonia auditions will be held August 7th from 4 – 6 PM.  Rehearsals will begin on August 14th, 2012 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM.  Call our office at 731-427-6440 for more information.

Musicians from The Jackson Symphony often lead sectional rehearsals.  Members of The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras are admitted free to all regular season concerts presented by The Jackson Symphony. There is a small annual tuition fee for orchestra members.
