Youth Orchestras

The Jackson Symphony is committed to providing quality educational opportunities for young musicians in West Tennessee. The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras challenge students to develop their musical skills to their fullest potential.

The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra will begin its 14th season in 2012-2013 under the direction of Dr. Daniel Hornstein. The orchestra will present three concerts and a side-by-side performance with The Jackson Symphony during the season. Entry into The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra is by audition. Serious young musicians who play any string instrument, standard orchestral brass and woodwinds, or  percussion are invited to audition.  Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:45 PM at Union University in Jackson.  Rehearsals for the 2012-2013 season begin August 9th.

JSYO spring auditions will be held Saturday, June 9th from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, June 10 from 1 PM to 5 PM.  Audition information and registration forms are available by clicking Here or by emailing danhornstein@hotmail.com. The Sinfonia Strings ensemble, directed by Tricia Wilburn, is The Jackson Symphony's intermediate string orchestra. Auditions will be August 7, Tuesday between 2:00-6:30 PM (15-Minute intervals for each audition).  Call 731-427-6440 to schedule an audition.  The first Sinfonia Strings rehearsal is August 14, 2012 at 5:30-6:30 PM at The Jackson Symphony office.

Students with 1 or 2 years of private instruction are encouraged to participate in Camerata Strings. This ensemble, led by Joy Krimm, introduces young children to ensemble playing. Call Mrs. Krimm at 731-736-1932 for more information.

Musicians from The Jackson Symphony often lead sectional rehearsals.  Members of The Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestras are admitted free to all regular season concerts presented by The Jackson Symphony. There is a small annual tuition fee for orchestra members.
