Most Frequently Asked Questions
#1 What do I wear to The Jackson Symphony?
You see a little bit of everything at the Symphony! But here are some tips:
Ideas for what to wear to a Classical Concert
Men: collard shirt or jacket if you prefer
Women: dress pants, skirt, or dress
Classical Concerts this Season include Appalachian Spring, On The Fringe, and The Chase.
Special note: On The Fringe is a "themed" classical concert and if you want to experience the roaring 1920s in your best flapper style, go for it!

Ideas for what to wear to a Pops Concert
Anything you would wear to a classical concert is fine, but depending on the theme, you might wear a costume, jeans, or even sequins!
Pops Concerts this Season include Disney's Hocus Pocus, Holiday Pops and Holiday Pops Family Matinee, Shaken & Stirred, and TCG's The Music of Led Zeppelin.

The most important thing is to wear what’s comfortable for YOU and to enjoy the concert.
#2 Where do I park?
The Symphony plays at two amazing venues:

The Ned R. McWherter Performing Arts Center
314 E. Main St | Jackson, Tennessee
Street and adjacent off street parking is available all around The Ned. Free parking may also be found in the following locations when available: 1) Municipal parking lot at the corner of South Church and East Baltimore and 2) the parking lot adjacent to First United Methodist Church off East Baltimore
The Carl Perkins Civic Center
400 S. Highland Ave | Jackson Tennessee
Ample free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Carl Perkins Civic Center.
Security will be on site for all concerts for your safety and convenience. If you need assistance getting to your car after a concert, don’t hesitate to ask.
#3 Will food and drinks be available at the concerts?
Yes! This is something new for the 2024-25 Season, and we are pleased to offer a variety of concessions for purchase in the lobby at our Civic Center concerts. Tables and chairs will be set up in the lobby for the convenience of our balcony guests.

#4 Is there a “wrong” time to clap at a concert?
No, but there are times when it can be confusing.
The best visual clue that it's time to clap is after the music ends and the conductor turns to the audience to bow. This signals the piece is finished and not paused between movements. But the most important thing is to enjoy the concert, and if at any point you feel moved to express appreciation for a job well done, feel free!
#5 When should I arrive and how long does the concert last?
It’s recommended you arrive at least 30 minutes before a performance begins to have time for parking, finding your seat, and visiting concessions or restrooms. If you plan to purchase a meal from one of our food vendors, you may want to arrive even earlier. Ushers won’t seat latecomers once the music begins—if you arrive late, you can enjoy extra time in the concession area until intermission. Concert length varies and is always printed in the program
